Instrument Selection

Students can choose one of the following instruments to learn in our band program:

• Flute
• Clarinet
• Bass Clarinet
• Alto Saxophone
• Tenor Saxophone
• Bari Saxophone
• Trumpet
• French horn*
• Trombone
• Euphonium
• Tuba
• Percussion*

No previous musical knowledge is necessary, however, it is highly recommended for students interested in playing French horn or Percussion.

All Grade 5 classrooms have been visited three times by our band teachers this June! During these visits, we discussed all of the instruments including pro and cons of each one. Teachers also guided students through some activities that help us observe which instruments make come most naturally for each individual student and gave them a certificate outlining our own recommendations.
