How It Works & Scheduling

Our band program is during school hours and operates September through May. Students are expected to catch up on any classwork missed in their homeroom while attending band classes.
Students participate in two classes per week that follow the Day 1-5 calendar.

  1. Sectionals: students meet at their home school for a small group class.
  2. Full Band:  a large class made up of students in Grade 6 band from the Martin Area feeder schools, may involve traveling to another school or have other schools come to your school!

We typically have four big events per school year. These include our Winter Concert in December, Optimist Band Festival in March, our Spring Concert in May, as well as a year-end trip which is also in May. Information regarding all performances, concerts, festivals, trips, etc. during the school year will always be communicated via email/handouts/blogs posts well in advance of the event.

We also expect a consistent practice routine at home for a minimum of 30 minutes per week which helps ensure that progress is consistently being made and therefore, that students will continue to feel motivated. It is much more beneficial to practice several times a week for a shorter amount of time than once a week all at once!
